The current European Championships has ten of the current squad taking part plus Lukas Podolski. Twelve years ago, the list was no less impressive:
England - Seaman, Keown, Adams
Sweden - Ljungberg
France - Vieira, Petit, Henry
Netherlands - Overmars, Bergkamp
Future Arsenal players were no less well-represented:
England - Campbell, Richard Wright
Germany - Lehmann
Czech Republic - Rosicky
France - Wiltord, Pires
Netherlands - van Bronckhorst
Which is before you think about players such as Anelka who had left the club.
France, world champions, sought to reclaim the European crown on home soil. They made light work of Denmark en route to winning the tournament with Henry and Wiltord scoring in this match. Henry played from the start, as did Petit whilst Vieira replaced Djorkaeff in the second half with Sylvain Wiltord the last to enter the fray in the final ten minutes, Anelka making way.
